Dr. William Chey is the Timothy T. Nostrant Collegiate Professor of Gastroenterology & Nutrition Sciences at the University of Michigan Medical School, Division of Gastroenterology, where he also serves as Director of the GI Physiology Laboratory, Director of the University of Michigan Food for Life Kitchen, Director of the Digestive Disorders Nutrition and Behavioral Health Program, and Medical Director of the Michigan Bowel Control Program. He received his BA degree from the University of Pennsylvania, his medical degree and training in internal medicine at the Emory University School of Medicine and went on to complete a fellowship in gastroenterology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Chey is a medical innovator who holds several patents, and his research interests focus on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of gut-brain interaction and H. pylori infection. He is former co-Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Gastroenterology and has authored more than 350 manuscripts, reviews, chapters, and books, including more than ten national and international clinical practice guidelines. Dr. Chey is a board member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the Rome Foundation, and the International Foundation for Gastrointestinal Disorders. He is a fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), the American Gastroenterological Association (AGAF), and the American College of Physicians (FACP).
